Citizens' Academy (CA)
This is a nation-wide program that affords business and community leaders an inside look at how the FBI works. The Citizens' Academy allows private citizens to meet and interact with personnel of the Salt Lake City Division in an informal setting, sharing ideas and information. This program has been very successful in that citizens who have attended have been given the opportunity to hear first hand how investigations are conducted, rules of conduct the Special Agents are required to follow, and the legalities of operating investigations in the three state area that the Salt Lake City Division covers. Some of the topics addressed at the CA are Cyber Crimes, Homeland Security, the Patriot Act, Infragard Program, CounterIntelligence, Domestic and International Terrorism, Espionage, Extortion, White Collar Crimes, Violent Crimes, Civil Rights, and Recruiting initiatives.
The CA is held twice a year in the Spring and Fall. Each CA is comprised of five two-hour sessions each week for five weeks, with a hands on firearms/hostage negotiation session being held on the last session for a total of six sessions. Participants are chosen from nominations received from former CA graduates and FBI personnel. |
