SENTENCED IN U.S. DISTRICT COURT Bill Mercer, United States Attorney for the District of Montana, announced today that during a federal court session in Great Falls, on October 2, 2006, before U.S. District Judge Sam E. Haddon, LAWRENCE DEAN JACKSON, JR., a 28-year-old resident of Fort Belknap, appeared for sentencing. JACKSON was sentenced to a term of: * ? Prison: 120 months, consecutive to another sentence * ? Special Assessment: $100 * ? Supervised Release: 3 years JACKSON was sentenced after having been found guilty during a 1-day trial of maiming. The jury found that JACKSON bit parts of the victim's nose and ear off, and then bit the victim's finger. . Because there is no parole in the federal system, the "truth in sentencing" guidelines mandate that JACKSON will likely serve all of the time imposed by the court. In the federal system, JACKSON does have the opportunity to earn a sentence reduction for "good behavior." However, this reduction will not exceed 15% of the overall sentence. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lori Harper Suek prosecuted the case for the United States. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
