BING WILLIAM AHENAKEW FOUND GUILTY IN U.S. FEDERAL COURT

Bill Mercer, United States Attorney for the District of Montana, announced today that on April 26, 2007, in Helena, after a 3-day federal district court trial before Senior U.S. District Judge Charles C. Lovell, BING WILLIAM AHENAKEW, a 26-year-old resident of Box Elder and Great Falls, was found guilty of assault resulting in serious bodily injury and assault resulting in substantial bodily injury to an individual under 16 years of age. Sentencing is set for September 21, 2007. AHENAKEW is currently detained.

AHENAKEW faces possible penalties of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and 3 years supervised release.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Anna S. Peckham prosecuted the case for the United States.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
