ELMER RED EAGLE, JR. FOUND GUILTY IN U.S. FEDERAL COURTBill Mercer, United States Attorney for the District of Montana, announced today that on May 17, 2007, in Helena, after a 3-day federal district court trial before Senior U.S. District Judge Charles C. Lovell, ELMER RED EAGLE, JR., a 40-year-old resident of Poplar, was found guilty of aggravated sexual abuse of a minor and sexual abuse of a minor. Sentencing is set for October 4, 2007. RED EAGLE is currently detained. RED EAGLE faces possible penalties of life in prison, a $250,000 fine and lifetime supervision. Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard A. Hosley prosecuted the case for the United States. The investigation was a cooperative effort between the Fort Peck Tribes Criminal Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
