The
FBI is particularly concerned with crime that directs
harm to innocent bystanders or victims. Individuals that would
resort to violence against the public require a unified response
from all of law enforcement. The Salt Lake City Division, in
cooperation with local city, county, state and other federal
agencies, has established a Violent Crimes and Major Offenders
(VCMO) task force that has been shown to be very effective
in counteracting the violent segment of the criminal population.
By working together, many of the otherwise compartmented efforts
have now been united, providing a much more rapid and effective
response to violent crime.
Criminals
on the run from justice have not only their own specific crime
to deal with, but the long arm of the Bureau as well. When there
is an indication that a subject will, has, or may cross state
lines, the FBI is immediately involved in the chase. The exhaustive
resources of the Bureau, such as the National Crime Information
Center (NCIC) and the FBI Crime Laboratory are an
invaluable aid in apprehending individuals who have fled to avoid
being brought to justice. |
