As
the largest federal law enforcement agency in the US, the FBI
has the significant share of the workload in the identification
of, and in providing assistance to victims and witnesses. The
Bureau's Victim/Witness Assitance Program (VWAP) was established
to help assist those who have suffered direct, or threatened
physical, emotional, or other kind of harm as a result of a commission
of a crime in which the FBI has been involved in the investigation.
The FBI provides victims and witnesses with their first, and
sometimes only, contact with the federal criminal justice system.
The Salt Lake City Division has a VWAP Coordinator, who is the
point of contact in such instances, and Special Agents will sometimes
act as liason in the coordination of the program's activities
and services with outside agencies and organizations. For more
